My least favorite set is block 3, Rise of Vigil and Darkness Unleashed. The newest set, Dreamscape, hasn't been digitally release yet so I haven't been able to try it. In my opinion, the first 2 blocks work really well together, as do Realms Unraveled + Dawn of Champions together. I mostly use the asynchronous online play, and just take my turn whenever I get a notification. I rarely sit down and just play the game (unless it's a bot game while I'm killing time or on the toilet).

However they are tied to your device account, so if you have two iPads under the same account, you can buy the IAP once, and play them against each other. (There was a sale earlier this year with everything for about $13.) Unfortunately the IAP are tied to the ecosystem, so purchases don't carry over between iOS and Android. All the expansions and promos total to about $25 - about the cost of one physical set.
#ASCENSION BOARD GAME ANDROID#
On Android and iOS the base game is free, with IAP for the expansions up to Dawn of Champions. The Steam version is $10, and comes with everything unlocked already, but according to reviews is the worst and most buggy out of the implementations. This means that all three platforms play off the same server, and that you can play and continue your online games from any of those platforms.

The digital port of the game is available on Android, iOS, and Steam, with cross-platform, asynchronous, online play between all three. Faction combos are also not as important in Ascension, I can just buy/deny any good card without having to worry about whether it will work with the factions in my deck. The Explorer is also really weak compared to the trade row cards, while the Ascension Mystics and Heavy Infantry are not as weak. Essentially, bad luck in hand draws and the trade row is a lot more punishing in Star Realms. Star Realms can also end more suddenly (if someone gets a good hand), not leaving opportunity for the opponent to retaliate. Star Realms is designed to snowball harder than Ascension, so it's hard to catch up from mistakes or bad draws. While I like Ascension, I hate Star Realms. Should I go combat heavy and try to end the game early? Should I build up an economic engine? Should I just buy constructs and win off points in my deck?Ī few of the people behind Star Realms also worked on Ascension, so that's probably part of why they seem similar. It provides variety so there are multiple possible paths to victory in each game. Personally, I like Ascension's two currency/ four faction system. These editions contain updated card art and designs, as well as having all foil cards. With Realms Unraveled, not only did they change the release format, they also changed the card design:Īs shown in the above pictures, old cards that were re-released had received art updates.Īdditionally, they have released Year One and Year Two collectors editions, which respectively collect the first two blocks + promos. The 3 most recent blocks have moved away from that, and now they just release standalone sets.Ĭhronicle of the Godslayer / Return of the Fallen It's like a simpler version of Ascension, and the theme is more interesting to people.įor the first few years, they were released as MtG style blocks with a large 4 player set first, and then an additional 2 player game/ expansion. Instead, I collect the DC Comics Deck Building game. I would buy it, but I don't think it would get many plays with my game group. Disclosure: I've never actually owned Ascension physically, all my experiences with it are through the digital app. This post is an attempt to collect information, as well as my thoughts, about the Ascension Deck Building Game system.
